The Journey Begins

  • Thanks for joining me!

The day of my mastectomy and direct to implant surgery.

postI changed into my hospital gown and waited in a preoperative holding area where a nurse asked me questions about my medications , inserted an IV line into my arm and taped into place. A blanket that inflated along with heat was placed on my body, then my legs were placed in cuffs that fill with air and squeeze them to prevent blood clotting. I was then given relaxing meditation and was able to visit with my family before being wheeled off to the operating room where they asked my name and asked me what they we’re going to be doing. (Believe me, I wish I was telling them something other than a mastectomy!) I was given general Anastasia and oxygen placed on my nose. I said a prayer as a tear rolled down my face, I was truly frightened of all the unknowns and then nightly night I went.
